The North West Highlands of Scotland have become legendary amongst mountain bikers, particularly Torridon, and for good reason. Dramatic mountains rise directly from the sea, towering over deep glens. These are landscapes sculpted by glaciers, their raw beauty enhanced through centuries by wild Atlantic weather. Singletrack roads wind their way through the mountains and around the rugged coastlines, leading to small fishing villages and past historic settlements. Ancient drover’s roads and paths criss-cross their way across the land, created long ago for the movement of people and animals through these wild and often inhospitable mountains, and repurposed now as the perfect way for us to enjoy these spectacular places.
Stags roam freely, golden and sea eagles soar overhead, and otters and seals are often seen in the bays. It is truly an incredible place and there is no better way than to explore it on two wheels and feel fully immersed in these landscapes.
Trip Information
Our accommodation for the trip is a private luxury lodge nestled in a beautiful and peaceful location. Scenically situated on the edge of a quiet bay, with stunning mountains all around, we have exclusive use of the lodge. A private chef will cater for us with delicious breakfasts, post-ride afternoon tea and cake, and hearty 3 course dinners, all making use of local products.
Each room is comfortable, spacious and ensuite, and with a cosy lounge space, extensive outdoor space, and great storage facilities for our bikes it’s a great spot which we’re happy to have found.
The lodge is perfectly situated in a central location, allowing us to access a different area for riding each day, all within a relatively short drive, minimising travel time and maximising time on the trails.
We spend 6 days riding, exploring each day in a different direction from our lodge. Our driver and private minibus and trailer will act as a support vehicle each day, shuttling us between trails as needed, and meeting us to provide lunch and snacks.
The variety of riding here is huge, and we try to sample as many of the highlights as possible:
Torridon, with it’s huge sandstone slabs, is infamous amongst mountain bikers, and the scenery and trails here have been used in many bike launch videos. We’ll spend a couple of days riding some of these iconic trails, which happen to be some of the very best in the UK!
The Applecross Peninsula is spectacularly located, and we cross this on a wild singletrack trail that finishes at the coast and a friendly pub.
The Island of Skye is a short distance away, and we’ll spend a day riding a beautiful singletrack trail that winds its way through a wild glen beneath the towering Cuillin hills, to a secluded bay.
The Lochalsh peninsula, home to flowing trails that pass through native woodlands and hidden lochs, finishing at the lovely little fishing village of Plockton.
The Fisherfield Wilderness, one of the most remote and wild areas in Western Europe, crossed by an incredible singletrack trail. Sightings of Eagles are common, and there are even beautiful pools for a dip if the weather allows.
For those who wish to take a rest day, the lodge is in the perfect place to relax with great views, walk in the surrounding mountains, sample some local seafood or whisky, or even spend a day enjoying some paddleboarding or kayaking.
There is also the possibility for a limited number of non-riding friends or partners to join the trip and make the most of the well-placed accommodation and delicious meals, while enjoying their own hiking or water-based activities each day while we are out riding - please contact us for more details on this.
