The Stag’s Domain: A Cairngorms Classic Enduro Adventure

At A Glance: The Stag’s Domain - A Cairngorms Classic Enduro Adventure

Explore the unrivalled natural beauty of the Cairngorm’s National Park with us on this 6 day mountain biking trip. Located on the Eastern side of the Scottish Highlands this is without doubt our favourite part of Scotland to ride in. The Cairngorms is the highest upland area in the British Isles claiming four of the five tallest peaks in the UK. We ride endless rocky descents from wild mountain summits, wind our way through deep glens where the remnants of Scotland’s ancient Caledonian forests stand majestically alongside the trails, and delve deep into the peaceful woodlands of Aberdeenshire where locals have handcrafted incredible enduro trails making use of the natural landscape. Join us to see why this area is rapidly gaining a reputation as one of the best places to ride in the UK!

Trip Information

Our six day adventure takes in a sample of some of the best singletrack this magnificent area has to offer. From huge descents from giant highland peaks, to perfectly crafted singletrack in magnificent ancient Caledonian forests, rocky flow over giant granite slabs, and technical riding through rugged and stunning landscapes, this trip has something for everyone!

We’ve designed our trip to take in as much great riding as we can fit in to 6 epic days, so we stay in 2 different hotels, switching half way through the week and giving us the opportunity to minimise travel time and maximise riding time each day. This means you’ll explore both the East and West sides of the Cairngorms National Park.

As always, we’ve picked small, friendly, cosy hotels where you can be sure of a comfy night’s sleep, a place to share a drink and relive the highlights of the day with your fellow riders, and sample some great Scottish food. Hearty breakfasts at both are a highlight too!

In our first location in Aviemore, we have the option to take dinner at several fantastic local restaurants, and in Aboyne meals are generally taken at the hotel which has a local reputation for great food. On our last night we’ll be having a BBQ beside a scenic loch, after a gin and spirit tasting at a local distillery.

Throughout the week there’s a strong chance you’ll see golden eagles, deer, red squirrels, and even the Cairngorm mountain reindeer!!

We spend 6 days riding, with each day feeling different in terms of landscape, terrain and trails. Our driver and private minibus and trailer will act as a support vehicle each day, shuttling us between trails as needed, and meeting us to provide lunch and snacks.

The variety of riding here is huge, and we try to sample as many of the highlights as possible:

  • Dunkeld, with it’s surrounding 4 hills each containing dozens of trails winding down through some of the tallest trees in Scotland.

  • Aviemore, this famous mountain town nestled at the foot of the Cairngorm mountains is surrounded by some of the oldest Caledonian pine forests in Scotland. Flowing woodland trails passing sparkling lochs allow us to see the best bits of the area before finishing at a pub on the banks of the river spey.

  • Glen Feshie is a beautiful glen where the landowners have spent years rewilding the landscape. We’ll climb out of the glen onto the summit of a Munro with magnificent views, before descending a long, fast rocky singletrack down into the woodland below. Sightings of Mountain hares are common here!

  • We’ll cross from Speyside to Deeside on a wild mountain journey day, crossing the UKs only sub-arctic plateau.

  • Royal Deeside, the King’s backyard, and home to incredible woodlands full of handcrafted enduro trails. Sightings of red squirrels and Eagles are common, and there are even beautiful pools for a dip in the river if the weather allows.
