Basic bike maintenance/repair and ride
Are you baffled by bike maintenance? Perplexed by punctures? Ruffled by repairs? Afraid to ask about fixing things you feel you should know, but are a bit scared to have a go at yourself?
Do you wish you could learn a bit more about your bike and fixing it so you could feel more confident to head out on bigger adventures?
Fear not, you are not alone!
We've had lots of enquiries about running a basic mountain bike maintenance course, and so have put together this one day course to demystify the dark art of maintenance and repair, and show all attendees that with a little bit of knowledge, they no longer need to fear being stuck out on a trail with a broken bike!
The day will combine a morning of practical learning indoors, followed by an afternoon out riding on the trails and looking at common trailside fixes.
The course is open to everyone and aimed at those with very little experience of bike maintenance, or those who occasionally have a go, but would like to learn easier, quicker ways to do things and to develop confidence.
The workshop will in many ways be guided by what participants would like to ask and learn, but we’ll make sure that amongst everything, the following topics are covered:
M safety-check of bike and anatomy of parts.
Basic everyday maintenance tips.
Puncture repair (including tubeless repair)
Brake pad changing
What to carry on the trail to be self-sufficient
Trailside repair tips and tricks.
Plus anything specifically requested by participants! (which doesn't require specialist tools or training!)
The course runs from 9am until 4pm, with the morning spent at The Adventure Hub in Bamford, where we have access to a large room ideal for allowing everyone to get stuck in and have a go at everything we’ll cover.
There is a cafe onsite where participants can get lunch (not included in course price), and then we'll head out on the local trails on a 2 hr or so ride to suit the abilities of participants, covering trailside fixes and problem-solving common scenarios that most mountain bikers will come across at some point in their riding careers!
